My Review: The book takes place in Los Angeles, California; in the Republic of America. The Republic is divided into sectors which are like cities. Outside the Republic are the Colonies, and then the Patriots. (The Republics worst enemies.)  June and Day, the main characters, both live in the Republic. Everyone who lives in the Republic has to take a trial; which is a test to see how intelligent you are. The highest score you can make is a 1500 and if you make anything below 850-900 you fail and are taken to a labor camp. June passes with a score of 1500 which has never been done before; she starts going to Drake University at the age of 12, and on top of that she skipped her sophomore year! She is the Republics prodigy, and soon will become apart of the military which is where all the smart and talented kids go. Day on the other hand failed his trial but managed to escape labor camp. Not to many people know he's alive, even his own mother thinks he's dead. Day lives on the streets; but one day he finds Tess. At the time she was also homeless and an orphan; so Day decided to take her in. Day and Tess have been living on the streets ever scene. But Day is no ordinary boy, He's the Republics most wanted criminal. He's the one responsible for many crimes but none of them involve killing. June lost both her parents in a car accident so her brother Metias takes care of her. (Metias is a high ranking military official) And when Day becomes the prime suspect for his murder; June makes it her mission to hunt him down and make him pay...

As the story unravels you start to see how awful and cruel the Republic is. For instance, there is a disease going around called the plague; a highly contagious virus that only hits the poor sectors. You as the reader will start to find out what or who is causing this horrible virus. This book has the perfect mix of dystopian and romance. Both June and Day go through a good amount of character development, which I can't wait to see more of in the next two books, Prodigy and Champion. Overall this was a great start to the trilogy and can't wait to read the next books!

I give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars!
